A leading construction organization based in Nigeria, Larfage plc, recently unveiled its 2015 Sustainability Report.
According to the company, this is done in accordance with the latest standard of the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G4.
Its Sustainability Report was launched at MUSON center in Lagos during the third edition of the Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition. Lafarge is adjudged as one the few organizations in Nigeria that record the best reporting practice.
While making comment on the report, Lafarge Africa Plc Chairman, Mr. Mobolaji Balogun, noted that sustainability is one of the essential elements that form Lafarge’s corporate strategy globally.
According to him, the company’s sustainability is the company’s internal platform which it uses to play its own quota in addressing the globe’s economic and social challenges, noting that the company has the responsibility and opportunity to make a positive difference.
In his words: “The Sustainability Report is, therefore, part of our methodology of increasing our level of transparency in sharing our sustainable development performance with our stakeholders.”
He noted that the report is a voluntary disclosure which is beyond listing requirements. He also stated that the report shows that Lafarge is committed towards promoting best practices in the manner it relates with the company’s internal and external stakeholders so as to have excellent results.
In his words, MD/CEO of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Michel Puchercos, said: “Driven by our ambition to set new standards and help transform the way our industry works, this report helps us to review, prioritize and take key decisions for improving our company’s sustainability efforts.
“It is an integral part of our operations, being one of the six pillars of Lafarge’s strategy and our vision aligns with the LafargeHolcim Group’s Sustainability Strategy, the 2030 Plan, which sets up on the path of Building for Tomorrow,” Puchercos noted.
He disclosed that 2015 was a very important year for sustainable development, noting that the company is happy to unveil its report in the same year when the Paris agreement, the COP21 conference on climate change and the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals took place.
